The new arrangements for next year's league have been published and are available on the website. Our teams are in Division One and Reserve Division Two. There are lots of local derbys!
This year's Annual Dinner was held at The Dragon Hotel on 15 October. Congratulations to all the award winners.
The club has been offered display space in the Museum of Welsh Cricket at the SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff next summer. This is a great opportunity to showcase the long history of the club and coincides with two international matches being played at the venue. If anyone has any items they think would be worth putting into the display please let Dave Thomas or Andrew Black know.
The club has been awarded a substantial grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund to record its history since the Second World War. This will use oral testimony, documentary research and the work of school children in building a picture of the club over the past 70 years. It builds on work already carried out by John Jones on the first 100 years of the club, from 1840 to 1940.

Accreditation and Development Plan

Montgomery Cricket Club are proud to have achieved Clubmark Accreditation in September 2008. We are the first cricket club in Mid Wales to have attained this award and it is a testament to our hard working Development Committee and Youth Committee that we have been able to reach the standard required in such a short time.

Clubmark Accreditation is the Sport England cross sport quality accreditation for clubs with junior sections. The ECB accredit clubs that comply with minimum operating standards in four key areas:

  1. The playing or participation programme
  2. Duty of care and child protection 
  3. Sports equity and ethics
  4. Club management

The benefits to the club and its members are as follows:

  1. An increase in the quality of coaching at the Club
  2. An improvement in the structure and communication within the club
  3. Access to professional cricket support through the ECB
  4. Access to funding to help with investment in ground and facilities
  5. Increase membership in the club – especially in the youth section 

As part of the Accreditation process a clear development plan has to be in place. Montgomery Cricket Club embarked some years ago on a 5 year planning process that set out our investment plans and developments that need to take place at the club to take on the challenges of the next generation. A copy of this plan can be found in the clubhouse or from the Management Committee Secretary David Thomas (01686 668934).

The Development Plan contains some key areas where we hope to gain grant awards to match our investment plans. These key areas are:

  1. Improvement in clubhouse facilities, including improved team, umpire and youth changing facilities, new showers and the installation of a disabled toilet – Completed April 2010
  2. Installation of improved all weather net facilities – Completed November 2009
  3. Installation of an artificial wicket on the square – Planned for December 2012 at the latest
  4. Replacement of some ageing equipment, such as a fine cut mower and an outfield mower – Completed May 2010
  5. Acquisition of covers – Completed June 2010

All these improvements underline the emphasis that the club places on the future and specifically the facilities to help coach and promote youth cricket in the area.

It's thanks to a very successful programme organised by club members that over £24,000 has been raised through commercial sponsorship and fund raising events. Added to this over £60,000 has been raised through grants from the E.C.B., P.A.V.O., The Laura Ashley Foundation, Powys County Council and The Lords Taverners. The plan was to invest over £88,000 in the club and we only have to raise a further £3,000 to complete the work with the installation the artificial wicket – we hope to be able to complete this in the next two years … if not sooner!!
